In Cyberpunk 2077, players frequently encounter complex side quests that test their decision-making skills and emotional intelligence. One of the most memorable early quests is Happy Together, where players are tasked with checking in on V's neighbor, an ex-NCPD officer named Barry. Many players wonder if it is truly possible to prevent Barry from taking his own life and secure a positive outcome. The good news is that Barry can be saved if players choose specific dialogue options and investigate his situation fully.

Starting the Happy Together Quest Properly

The quest begins right outside V's apartment in Megabuilding H10, where two police officers are seen knocking on Barry's door. Speaking with Officers Mendez and Petrova reveals that Barry has secluded himself following a traumatic event on the job. Players must wait for Barry to open up and allow V inside his apartment to start the crucial conversation. Skipping optional dialogue choices during this encounter will lock players out of the best resolution.

Uncovering Barry's Grief and Visiting the Niche

When speaking to Barry inside his apartment, it is essential to ask about his former colleagues and press deeper into how his friend Andrew passed away. Demonstrating empathy unlocks an optional quest objective directing V to visit Andrew's memorial niche in North Oak. Heading to the columbarium before returning to the police officers allows V to discover that Andrew was actually Barry's beloved pet turtle. This crucial discovery reveals the true depth of Barry's isolation and emotional distress.

Confronting the NCPD Officers with the Truth

After learning about Andrew at the columbarium, V must return to Officers Mendez and Petrova. It is important to inform them about visiting the grave and explain the significance of Andrew in Barry's life. Hearing this forces Mendez to realize how severely they neglected their friend's mental health struggles. The realization prompts Mendez to approach Barry's door with genuine compassion rather than annoyance.

Securing the Best Ending for Barry

By providing the officers with the full picture, Mendez successfully connects with Barry through shared struggles in law enforcement. Barry eventually opens his door to accept help, ensuring his survival and rewarding V with additional eddies. Taking the time to explore optional objectives turns a tragic situation into a story of recovery and empathy in Night City.
